According to official records, the incident allegedly occurred on 13 January 2025 in Islam Nagar, Patan Sher Khan, a remote and underdeveloped village in Azad Kashmir. Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on 15 January 2025, naming Ubaid Shoaib as the accused.

The case quickly drew attention due to the age of the victim and concerns over the initial handling of the investigation.
