MUZAFFARABAD: In a major political and legal development, the Azad Government of the State of Jammu and Kashmir has officially approved the withdrawal of multiple criminal cases registered against members of the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).

According to an official notification issued by the Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs, and Human Rights Department in Muzaffarabad, the decision follows a strategic resolution passed by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet during its 41st meeting. The landmark Cabinet meeting was held on June 5, 2026.

President Approves Legal Retraction

The official order confirms that the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has formally accorded approval to withdraw several older notifications. These notifications directly related to cases of “protest and agitation” that had been filed against the banned committee before various competent criminal courts across the region.

The specific legal notifications being rescinded under this new directive include:

  • Notification No. LD/Litigation/763-83/2024 (Dated: 07.12.2024)
  • Notification No. LD/Litigation/25/227/2025 (Dated: 15.12.2025)
  • Notification No. LD/Litigation/25/227-A/2025 (Dated: 26.12.2025)
  • Notification No. LD/Litigation/25/I-227-A/2025 (Dated: 31.12.2025)

Official Administrative Mobilization

The decree, documented under file number No. LD/Lit/131/26/2026, has been circulated to all major administrative and judicial bodies across the state to ensure immediate compliance.

Copies of the directive have been forwarded to the Chief Secretary of the AJK Government, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for prompt legal processing, and the Registrar of the Supreme Court and High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Furthermore, all Divisional Commissioners, DIGPs (Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Mirpur), District and Session Judges, and Deputy Commissioners have been notified to halt ongoing proceedings associated with these specific cases.

The Controller of the Government Printing Press in Muzaffarabad has also been directed to publish this notification in the extraordinary Official Gazette, marking a formal end to these long-standing legal disputes stemming from past civil agitations.
