AJ&K Celebrates International Day for Biological Diversity with Community Event at Nardajian
NARDAJIAN, AJ&K — On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K) successfully organized a major awareness event at the Nardajian Boys High School.
The seminar was held under the umbrella of the Upscaling of Green Pakistan Program (UGPP) and centered around the global theme: “Acting Locally for Global Impact.”
Located adjacent to the ecologically significant Qazi Nag Game Reserve, the event brought together local communities, social activists, students, media representatives, and senior officials of the Wildlife Department to highlight the critical importance of biodiversity conservation and the role of community participation in protecting natural resources.
High-Profile Leadership and Strategic Addresses
The program was graced by the presence of honorable senior leadership, including:
- Ambreen Asghar (Honorable Additional Secretary, Forest & Wildlife)
- Abdul Shakor Khan (Respected Director Wildlife)
During his keynote address, Director Wildlife Abdul Shakor Khan emphasized the profound significance of biodiversity in maintaining ecological balance. He shed light on the vital role that local communities play in modern conservation practices and highlighted the continuous, strategic efforts of the department toward the protection and sustainable management of wildlife and natural habitats across AJ&K.
Following his address, representatives from the local communities took the stage to share their firsthand experiences. They highlighted the successful community-based conservation initiatives currently being carried out in and around the protected boundaries of the Qazi Nag Game Reserve.
Engaging Youth in Climate Action
To actively engage the next generation in conservation awareness, the event featured competitive speech competitions among the students on the specific topic: “Importance of Biodiversity.” The students participated with immense enthusiasm, expressing a deep commitment toward protecting local nature and regional wildlife.
In her concluding remarks, Additional Secretary Ambreen Asghar highly appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Wildlife Department. She extended her sincere thanks to all participants, local communities, students, and media representatives for their active involvement in making the event a resounding success.
