Diaspora Leaders Condemn AJK Violence; Call for Independent Inquiry, Internet Restoration, and Peaceful Dialogue
Raja Sikander Khan, Chairman, and Kala Khan, President of Kashmir International Outfit, representing the diaspora and think tank Global Pak Kashmir Supreme Council, have issued the following joint statement to members of the media.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic events that have occurred over the past few days in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), particularly in the districts of Mirpur, Kotli, and Rawalakot, where innocent people have reportedly been shot while participating in peaceful marches and demonstrations.
First and foremost, we wish to express our heartfelt sorrow and condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives, as well as to those who have been injured. We pray to Almighty Allah to grant the highest abode in Jannah to those who have passed away and to bless the injured with a full and speedy recovery.
We wish to make it absolutely clear that in any democratic society, and indeed under the principles of all major religions, every individual has the fundamental right to express their views through peaceful protest and demonstration. The use of excessive force against peaceful protesters, particularly the use of live ammunition, is unacceptable and must be condemned.
It is the duty of every government to ensure the safety, security, and fundamental rights of its citizens and residents. Governments must protect the lives and property of their people. In this regard, we urge the Prime Minister of AJK, government officials, and law enforcement agencies to ensure that no innocent lives are targeted and that all necessary measures are taken to safeguard the lives and property of the public.
We also strongly call upon the Government of AJK to restore internet services and ensure uninterrupted access to communications, transportation, and emergency services. Furthermore, national and international media organisations should be allowed access to report on the current situation freely and transparently.
We respectfully request the Government of AJK to conduct a full, fair, and independent inquiry into the incidents involving the use of force and the resulting loss of life, and to ensure that any individuals found responsible are brought before the law.
In addition, appropriate compensation should be provided to the families of all victims who have lost their lives, whether members of the public or law enforcement personnel, as well as to those who have suffered injuries.
At the same time, we appeal to members of the Awami Action Committee and the general public of AJK to continue exercising their democratic rights in a peaceful and lawful manner. Every life is precious; property and material possessions can be replaced, but human life cannot.
We must also remember the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s Armed Forces in protecting the country’s borders. At this sensitive time, hostile elements may seek to exploit the current situation through misinformation and propaganda. We therefore respectfully urge the Awami Action Committee, the Government of AJK, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir to work towards ending the bloodshed and resolving all issues through dialogue, consultation, and peaceful engagement.
In conclusion, we pray for peace, stability, and prosperity in AJK and Pakistan, and for an end to the suffering and loss of innocent lives.
