The Legacy of the Martyrs of the Movement: No Compromise on the Right to Ownership and the Right to Self-Governance

In the history of nations, some sacrifices are not merely events they become an ideology, a covenant, and a responsibility for generations to come. The true strength of any movement lies in its martyrs, because it is through their blood that the direction of the struggle is defined. This is why, when a nation forgets the sacrifices of its martyrs or narrows down their purpose, history never forgives it.

Today, the martyrs of the ongoing movement for people’s rights have also become part of that history. They did not set out to sacrifice their lives merely for a slogan, a momentary protest, or a limited political demand. They offered their lives with the conviction that their nation would gain the right of ownership over its resources and the right to govern its own future. Their sacrifice is a symbol of a principled stance that cannot be confined within the bounds of any temporary administrative concession or partial settlement.

Since this movement for people’s rights began on May 9, 2023, it has claimed numerous precious lives. These martyrs are a shining chapter of this struggle, having infused it with new life and new strength through their blood. Regrettably, the movement has not yet reached its logical conclusion. If the use of force, confrontation, and violence continues, there is a fear that more innocent lives may be lost. Every life is precious, and every new sacrifice leaves a fresh wound on the heart of the nation. This is why the need for justice, people’s rights, and a lasting solution has grown more urgent than ever.

For several decades, the people have felt that a limited elite holds dominance over the state’s resources and authority, while ordinary citizens are deprived of basic facilities, economic justice, and meaningful participation in decision-making. This sense of deprivation gradually transformed into public consciousness, and it was this consciousness that gave birth to this historic popular movement.

During this movement, the issue of the twelve reserved seats also came under discussion, but the truth is that this is only one component of the larger purpose, not its destination. These young men did not sacrifice their lives for a single administrative change, but for the establishment of a system in which the unnecessary privileges of the elite would end, the people would gain the right of ownership over their resources, and genuine self-governance over the affairs of their own land would be achieved. If today the entire movement is reduced to nothing more than a limited administrative or constitutional change, it would be an injustice to the great cause of these martyrs.

This movement, in fact, stands against the mindset that has for years confined resources to a select few, while the people have had to struggle even for basic necessities. The demand for the right to ownership and the right to self-governance is, in essence, a demand for the end of this historical injustice. Until the people gain a genuine role in decisions concerning their resources, their future, and their collective destiny, the fundamental goals of this struggle will remain incomplete.

Today, the people are more aware than ever before. They know that the price of the martyrs’ blood cannot be paid with mere promises, temporary announcements, or partial concessions. This awareness is the true strength of this movement. To ignore the aspirations of the people would not only be a betrayal of the martyrs’ sacrifices, but could also give rise to further unrest and distrust in the future.

At this critical juncture, a historic responsibility rests upon the Action Committee. In making every decision, it is essential to keep in mind the sacrifices of the martyrs, the aspirations of the people, and the fundamental objectives of the movement. Vigilance is also needed against those elements who, for whatever reason, may attempt to narrow the scope of this movement or divert it from its true purpose. The people have now reached a level of awareness from which there is no easy return. Therefore, every step must be taken in accordance with the collective aspirations of the nation.

Likewise, it is a moment of reflection for all relevant institutions and decision-making circles that lasting peace and stability are established not through the use of force, but through justice, public trust, dialogue, and respect for rights. Every step that prevents further bloodshed and leads toward a just resolution of the people’s grievances will serve the interest of society as a whole.

It must always be remembered that martyrs do not sacrifice their lives for a limited concession or a temporary settlement. Their sacrifices are a trust held by the nation. Safeguarding this trust demands that the fundamental goals of ownership rights, self-governance, justice, and public empowerment never be forgotten.

The greatest tribute we can pay to the martyrs is to keep their dreams, their ideology, and their purpose alive, and to strive to bring this struggle to a conclusion in which justice, people’s rights, and human dignity are assured. The sacrifices of these martyrs are a luminous chapter in history, and it is the nation’s responsibility to safeguard this trust so that no mother’s lap is emptied again, no child loses the shelter of a father’s presence, and no more precious lives are lost. And until the great objectives are achieved for which young hearts colored the earth with their warm, red blood no one may, at any point, betray this sacred struggle.
